Fast Fashion & Furniture – Are Disposable Clothes and Furniture Killing the Planet?

Date: TBD

According to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the fast fashion industry is the second-biggest consumer of water and is responsible for about 10% of global carbon emissions – more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. The EPA estimates that 9 million tons of furniture—roughly 5% of everything brought to landfills—are tossed every year. Most of this discarded furniture, often laced with forever chemicals, was made within the last generation when the low price points and instant gratification made possible by fast furniture took precedence over durability and craftsmanship. What can we do as individuals, families, and a community to do our part to slow the flow of fast fashion and furniture ending up in our landfills?
